Would you like to find crafts for kids that are innovative, doable, easy to set up, that you will not find ANYWHERE on the internet , yet are developmentally appropriate?
and in the process raise their self esteem?
You’ve been there haven’t’ you? Scrolling through the web looking for the perfect crafts for the theme or holiday you are teaching about.
And all you keep finding are the same, boring, traditional copycat arts and crafts.
Copycat arts and crafts that you’ve already learned, destroys kids self esteem, takes away their independence, problem solving skills and are often way too complicated with hard to find materials in the instructions.
Can you envision having a system, sort of like a magic box of developmentally appropriate crafts ideas that you open up and take out exactly the craft idea you need for that day?
If you are already sold on doing arts and crafts like the way I describe than, I’m probably alot like you.
My name is Faige Kobre. I love kids as I’m sure you do and I actually started my Early Childhood teaching years doing the traditional arts and crafts that all the other teachers in the school were doing.
As my first year of teaching progressed I felt that something was missing. The crafts just didn’t feel right too me. I wasn’t finding that the children loved the crafts activities as much as they should, but when I asked other teachers about it their response was always
“That’s what the parents want”
And so I continued with what I was doing, not very satisfied.
But then I got involved in progressive education which led to developmentally appropriate art, and guess what I discovered ......
Parents really appreciate art that is geared towards their child’s development level and not just to impress them
Of course, that is only when they are properly educated from you the teacher, otherwise they just look at the stuff the kids bring home as a bunch of messes.
They also don’t only want ONLY messy art though, which is often what young children are capable of. Even though they can understand art done with children’s development in mind, they still need some crafts that’s more recognizable.
As I learned more about education especially from the graduate school I ended up in, Bank Street College of Education, I realized I was in a bit of a bind.
Bank Streets philosophy does not advocate ANY crafts at all but I was dealing with real parents who did need to see some sort of crafts projects. They still want tangible crafts to help commemorate holidays, and events.
The bind I was in had to do with what I was learning about how children developed as shown by the quote below from an the author of the best selling book The Culture Code by Clotaire Rapaille
“We do the overwhelming majority of our learning when we are children. By the time we are 7 most of our mental highways have been constructed”
Which meant in Bank Street terms to stick to pure process only art so as not to stifle the children with traditional copycat arts and crafts.
So how would I reconcile the parents and teachers need to do crafts with my understanding of what was good and what was not good for children?
What do you do when there is a real need for crafts but don’t want to give the children the wrong crafts?
Now I know there are thousands of crafts activities out there on the web, but most of them are typical, copycat crafts. And finding the good ones is tedious work.
I was a teacher and was beginning to see how frustrating it was.
- The need for crafts ideas, that actually LOOK like something and not just messy paintings.
- The desire to keep the kids interested and happy because you know that focused involvement spills over into other areas of learning, making the children better learners.
- The expectation to send home crafts with the kids to make the parents happy as well.
So I was in the same bind you may be in.
You don’t want to spend hours upon hours sifting through web sites to find the perfect crafts. Am I right?
But you do want to do crafts with the kids but want them to be developmentally appropriate.
So I thought to myself. How would most teachers like it if someone did the work for them? Spent the time actually creating all the perfect crafts to fit the myriad holidays and special days that come up throughout the year and putting it all into a system.
And I figured that if I as a teacher would appreciate something like that than I’ll bet many other teachers and early childhood educators would like it as well.
So that is what I did for you.
I created a system, a unique, children’s crafts system.
It actually started when I was in that bind of wanting to please everyone.
But I didn’t have all the information I needed at that point and it wasn’t until I became a preschool director after many years of teaching Early Childhood education that my ideas came to fruition.
I had been doing the research all along (at that time there was no internet so it was slogging through books, and going to workshops) and as I started putting the material I had together for my teachers I realized that I had sort of developed a system of doing crafts in an educational way
I named this system Educational Arts and Crafts.
Even though I had done this for the teachers I was directing, I figured this was a system that more than just my teachers could benefit from so I decided to expend the effort putting it into book and audio form and then decided to try selling it. At that point it was through snail mail.
The ideas in it received such great reviews that I began being invited to local schools to give workshops to the early childhood teachers there. but I was only reaching small audiences.
As the internet gained traction though, I realized that by redoing this course that I was selling in loose-leaf and tape form (cassettes that is) If I put it into digital form I could offer it to a much wider market by selling it online .
And so I set out to transfer the information into an e book which slowly evolved into an e course. An e course called.....

“OK what’s this going to cost you?
As many of you may know I give workshops for teachers on Educational Art for the Early Childhood classroom. I charge $500 for a 2 hour class.
At the end of the workshops teachers are often left with a major question.
“Ok we like it and want to do it but how do we translate this material into our every day crafts projects that we give the children”
and the teachers want me to give them the step by step activities for all the different holidays and yearly events.
But of course I can’t do that in a 2 hour class. So instead I spent months and months culling and pulling together this system, so that you can have at your fingertips all the educational art crafts activities so you don’t have to spend the months of time and effort (and $500 for the workshop.)
You are actually getting information that the participants in $500 workshops don’t get
You getting educational DVD’s that usually sell for about $45
an audio cd that goes for about $19
and a PDF guide with this much information that usually run about $77
Add it all up and you’ve got $231 and if you count the $500 workshop that’s $731

”Children’s art books that I have looked at recently seem to be about adult art but tapered down” For anyone wishing to change over to win-win educational arts and crafts this is the perfect guide to help you do just that. I am not sure what is available out there for free but this is one of the first that I have read that is written in a clear easy to follow way.”

“This is really a course for everybody. I’ve seen many things that were process only art that were for teaches only but this is for everybody. I love your philosophy about self esteem and art”

“The information you have here is sorely lacking in most art books and especially in crafts books. I think people that take on this method will take the pressure off of children to perform beyond their capabilities and ages. I don’t care if their granny is a famous south African artist, the child must do what he can at his and her level”

“I feel that Faige’s enthusiasm is contagious and her approach is very passionate. It will be very helpful in giving this method over to our children. This course is a good addition to any educator or parent willing to develop the best in the child’s creative maturation”
