About

Welcome to eduart 4 kids.

My name is Faigie Kobre and I am the creator of this blog. I am a former preschool teacher and director of early childhood education and started my  teaching years ago doing traditional arts and crafts. It’s what  all the other teachers in the school  that I  was working at were doing. All the other teachers were doing the typical 20 of the same, cut out projects and nobody seemed to know any different.

As my first year of teaching progressed I  felt that something was missing. The crafts I was giving the children just didn’t feel right too me. The kids finished it too quickly and the activities just didn’t seem to engage them.

At the same time I was trying to incorporate some simple collage activities into my art curriculum to do more creative art with the children. At that point though, all I knew about collage was was using old cut up leftover pieces from projects which didn’t keep the children’s interest very long either.

I finished that year up as a novice teacher and soon ended up at the graduate school called, Bank Street College of Education.Bank Street, a preeminent graduate school of progressives education had a  philosophy that was a breath of fresh air for anyone interested in progressive education.

Problem was: Bank Street does not advocate ANY crafts, only real art, but I was still teaching in a traditional  school setting, dealing with  parents who did need to see some sort of crafts projects. They still wanted tangible crafts to help commemorate holidays, and other events.

After much thought and toil I finally decided to create something that I  could use myself  and be happy to sell to others and it turned over the years into a  comprehensive set of eBooks that you can check out over here.

I also wanted to introduce people to lots of other wonderful art activities and concepts about children and creativity and  self esteem and so this blog eduart 4 kids was born.

As part of my interest in educational art I give workshops for teachers and parents on developmentally appropriate art for kids. As of late, I have been asked to include information on the Reggio Emilia method and have started incorporating that information into my workshops and into this blog as well. As time goes on I hope to incorporate all kinds of creative activities and topics for kids not just related to art.

This site is about kids and creativity that empowers children. Activities that give them self confidence, vital thinking and problem solving skills and  initiative building. All of this leads to a   heightened self esteem in children, which makes them better learners as well.

In this blog are crafts AND art activities. They are not the same. When you find craft activities on this blog you can be sure that I have remade the typical crafts ideas into fun, developmentally appropriate craft activities. The art activities are chosen to help your children develop their creativity and the skills listed above.

I have coined the term Educational Art or Educational Arts and Crafts, to show how good art can and should be educational as well.

If you are interested in learning why crafts needs to be developmentally appropriate you may want to download my FREE  original report “Can Crafts for Kids Make my Kid Smarter”.

The report explains it all. Once you know why to choose the right crafts and art activities then you can come back to this blog  or you can purchase my eBooks that will take you even further on your journey.

If you have any topics you would like me to cover or have any other interesting things to add you can leave a comment for me on the bottom of this page or on any other page. Or you can email me at kobres@gmail.com.

If you are interested in my running any workshops for your organization you can reach me at the above email address.

Hi Faigie! I also write an art and creativity blog and was just reading yours this morning – I love your ideas! We are so similar in the way we think about art. I also see you have a Discount School Supply link on your lefthand column. I work for that company out of Southern California. Where do you work? I would love to meet you sometime at an NAEYC conference or other event. Thank you for your wonderful ideas. Anna Reyner

    Hi Anna,
Thanks so much for your comment.
I am actually not working in education right now even though I do run a summer art camp with my older daughters. I haven’t been that involved with organizations even though I used to read the magazine from naeyc years ago (was that Young Children? or something similar)The funny think is that since I started working more on my blog I started following a bunch of art related and early childhood blogs and when I clicked on your link in my comment I realized that you were one of the blogs I started following. I would love to get back into early childhood somehow if it’s not full time and I probably should come to one of these conferences as well. If you have nay plans to be in NY at all, send me an email and maybe we can get together. Thanks so much for your vote of confidence.
